Enhancing access to dementia-friendly events through an innovative digital service
Voucher Scheme Round 3
The value of creative activities for supporting health and wellbeing is increasingly clear. This is a key part of the NHS ‘social prescribing’ agenda: the referral to non-clinical health services that sit within communities, whether a reading club, a local choir, or a self-help group. Yet, a key challenge faced by NHS staff in enabling a social prescribing approach is the limited information available on local activities and their suitability for people living with a dementia diagnosis.
The team developed a ‘what’s on for dementia wellbeing’ service that can be accessed through the Welcome2Liverpool phone app – a free, real-time guide to events across the Liverpool City Region. Design principles for the service will be established through workshops with arts organisations, clinicians, app developers, and people living with a dementia diagnosis. A platform is also being developed to facilitate the submission of activities to the service.
